The health index is derived from the consumer price index, with tobacco, alcohol, petrol and diesel removed. Statbel calculates and publishes it every month, usually towards the end of the month. It is this index — not the ordinary price index — that legally forms the basis for rent indexation in Belgium.
For your indexation you need two figures: the initial index for the month before your lease was signed (or before it took effect, for Flemish residential leases from 2019), and the new index for the month before the anniversary date. The new rent is then: base rent × new index / initial index.
